"The mark of a really great writer is that he or she gives expression to what the masses of mankind think or feel without knowing it. The mediocre writer simply writes what everyone would have said."
-G.C. Lichtenberg

Expressions
Faces from the past haunt me in the now
Their presence overwhelms me with love
I shed a tear in silent respect
For the mutual respect we dreamt of

Faces from the now haunt my future to be
In a fashion that boils my soul
Friends are friends as friends cannot be
When compromise does not play a role

When a face from the past sees a face from the now
It speaks of an inner truth
A face is a face and friends we'll all be
If our future faces improve

As our lives continue more faces will haunt us
But only we can say how
Base your friendships on trust, compromise and respect
And your past will produce a better now
